Bungie Introduces Destiny’s First Vehicle, The Shrike

February 13, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Everyone is getting a landscape traversing hoverbike that’ll be the bread and butter travel vehicle for the Guardians.

Bungie has revealed a literal gamechanger for its upcoming massive multiplayer Destiny. Introducing the Shrike, a stylish little hovercraft straight out of F-Zero or Wipeout.

Well, I guess it’s like that hoverbike Darth Maul uses in Episode 1. It’s not the most powerful vehicle you can get out there, but it is sleek, nimble, and fast. Bungie’s description gives us the impression that it will traverse the beautiful alien landscapes quickly and efficiently, whatever the terrain.

They also explain that it may not always be the ideal vehicle, but it will always be available on hand to players, so that traveling around the game will feel enjoyable.

Don’t worry about it being only that much good, because Bungie promises the ship will be upgradeable over time. As it is, you will be able to put an individual mark on it by choosing three paint schemes to represent your class. The paint schemes themselves will go through a particular palette and change to show progress, reflecting your own evolution in the game.

Bungie also points out that this is only one of many vehicles that will be available for Destiny. Of course, being the 1st one announced, we expect this to be the bread and butter for everyone.

It does not seem to be a Warthog, and that’s definitely a good thing. Bungie may have a Warthog like vehicle planned for Destiny anyway, but for now, it looks like they are ready to create an entirely different experience.

Destiny is coming for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, on September 9 this year.
