Rumor: Xbox One Getting 1st Software Update, New Models, Upcoming Region Launches

January 30, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Microsoft may never truly be finished launching their console for the next few months.

There are new rumors, several verified separately, that Microsoft is slated to release a few updates for Xbox One, including its first software update in March, several special edition models, and upcoming regions.

The update was verified independently after the rumor initially came out. The update will fix issues related to Xbox Live.  Other fixes will be applied towards party chat, as well as usability, AKA how the menus are arranges. In particular, there will be changes to how to access the social features on Xbox Live.

If you remember the white Xbox One given exclusively to employees when the console launched, yes, they will be painting the plastic a different color for retail in October, to coincide with the release of Sunset Overdrive. Other alleged SKUs include a 1 TB Xbox One, a model without a Blu-Ray drive, and a Titanfall special edition. It has also been independently verified that Xbox One has been testing an Xbox One without a Blu-Ray drive, although they did not confirm the rumor that Microsoft was planning to release the Xbox One this way from the onset, before the big change in policies.

Lastly, these are the rumored regions Xbox One will be launched in next:

April: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan

October: China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, South Africa, Turkey, United Arab Emirates
