Sony Santa Monica came up on the Playstation Blog to talk about upgrading their facilities, necessitating a move to Playa Vista.
Sony Santa Monica’s studios were actually built on top of a 1900s train station, and over the last decade they ended up occupying the whole building. In the old studio, they built games like Kinetica and the God Of War series. They also worked with other developers to make games like Fat Princess, Journey, Sound Shapes, and The Unfinished Swan. In total, they spent 14 years making 47 games in the studio.
To be practical, however, they simply have to move to facilitate the growth of the studio itself. The new location will facilitate their no walls policy, and will also have a state-of-the-art recording studio and motion capture facility, which they will be sharing with Naughty Dog.
Lastly, the studio talked up their upcoming games, Hohokum and The Order: 1886, and basically sent a call out for new employees who live near the area. For fans of Sony Santa Monica’s games, it’s definitely an enticing offer.
And yes, they are serious about finding new people. If you actually do live near the area, I suggest you check out their website’s career page to see if your skills match any of their job openings here.
This post was crossposted from their own website, where you can see even more pictures of the new Playa Vista studio still under construction. Check out a lot of pictures of wide open spaces here.
