Introducing Dark Souls 2’s NPCs

January 24, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

They are all not to be completely trusted. Some of them may even already be dead. At least that’s a great conversation starter.

Thanks to a fan translation of the Japanese Dark Souls 2 website, we have new details on the NPCs you will meet in the game. As the site’s text says, sometimes the will act to help the player, and sometimes they intend to be in the way. Therefore, you must take their advice with the utmost caution. Apparently, they may all already be dead.

When you enter Drangleic, you are met by three mysterious old ladies, pejoratively referred to as crones or hags here. Their faces cloaked, they are not given names here but their caretaker has one, Millibeth. And that’s the extent of what we know.

There’s also a pilgrim, a woman in green robes who serves as your guide in Drangleic. These characters are usually central to the plot, so you may find out more about her than most.

There is a peddler, named Merentira, who has gone mad from having been one of the remaining original peoples of Drangleic left. He carries everything he owns prominently on his back, having lost his home, and is likely your first merchant.

Renegatt is a clearly undead blacksmith, who still plies his trade, repairing weapons and armor, even while memories of his family are fresh in his mind.

Mafmuran is another merchant, from the kingdom of Bourgen in the west. He isn’t exactly happy with the meager business in Drangleic, but your gold is as good to him as anyone’s.

Lucatiel is a fellow warrior with a curse. Hailing from Mira, he was on the path to becoming a knight when he was struck by the mark of the curse.  He is in Drangleic to find a cure.

Grindock is a devout warrior who may be overly strict to the people around him, but is known for his principles.

Dark Souls 2 is coming to Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows on March 11.
