Microsoft: Naughty Dog is ‘Unique in Our Industry’

January 22, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Microsoft Game Studios’ president says Uncharted developer is ‘a special studio’.

Naughty Dog is "unique" within the game industry according to Microsoft Game Studios' president Phil Spencer who declared that Redmond does not want to create a similar internal studio.

Responding to a question on Twitter regarding the first party Sony developer Spencer commented:

"Naughty Dog is a special studio with an amazing track record. I believe they are unique in our industry. Great studios have unique culture. Creating a studio to be 'like' another isn't a goal for us."

Microsoft is being careful to nurture strong internal teams, Spencer added, "Having great internal studios is absolutely part of the plan, it's critical to long term success."

Naughty Dog most recently released The Last of Us which won over 200 Game of the Year awards. Single player DLC for the game, entitled Left Behind, is set for release on February 14th.

Development of the next Uncharted title, which is not currently named, is aleady underway. The game was announced at the PlayStation 4's North American launch event and will be exclusive to the platform.

The most prominent Microsoft first party studios include Halo developer 343 Industries and Fable maker Lionhead.
