Play Aveline As Assassin, Royal, And Slave, in Assassins Creed Liberation HD

January 11, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Upcoming Assassins Creed 4 DLC has some interesting new tweaks to keep things interesting.

Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD will have a few interesting new game mechanics when it comes to that DLC’s playable character, Aveline de Grandpres. Making use of her skill of hiding in plain sight, she has three personas that translate to three gameplay styles for the DLC.

The Assassin persona is the default and most straightforward persona. You have the most ability to move around the city, and you are armed to the teeth. However, Liberation adds another mechanic, called Notorious. Dressed up straightforwardly as an Assassin, this persona is always Notorious, so if the guards see you, they will always notice and go after you. You can lower your Notoriety by bribing magistrates, but you might also want to raise it. You can use an ability called Chain Kill that essentially allows you to bullet time enemies, at the cost of raised Notoriety.

In direct contrast, the Lady persona is the weakest, but the best at blending in and the most adept at lowering Notoriety. You are dressed conservatively, if discreetly, as an upper class gentlewoman. Using a mechanic called Charm, you can have a guard run after you, to take out in a discreet location, without the other guards getting suspicious. Unfortunately, the Lady cannot jump around or move as freely as the Assassin, and has few combat options, but Aveline can use a very sneaky Parasol Gun for long range sniper missions. Lowering notoriety is a simple matter of disposing of witnesses.

In the middle is the Slave persona. Under this guise, Aveline can free run as well as the Assassin, and can also make herself inconspicuous carrying a crate. In some ways, the Slave is even better than the Lady in this regard, since she can get through to the most restricted of areas. To balance it out, the Slave has less combat options than the Assassin, but more than the Lady. Reduce her notoriety by removing Wanted posters across town.

Take a spin playing Aveline’s many different personas when Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD releases January 14 on PSN, and the day after on XBL, Steam, and Uplay.
