Phil Spencer Not Confident Xbox Series X Launch Titles Won’t Be Delayed

May 4, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Coronavirus could prove to be difficult for video games rather than hardware.

There’s a lot of anticipation and hype going on within the video game industry. We have big-name titles receiving remakes, remastered editions, not to mention brand new IPs coming out into the market along with new installments to other much-beloved franchises. One of the anticipated releases also happens to be the video game consoles themselves. Both Microsoft and Sony plan to release their next-generation video game console platforms which are slated to release this holiday season. While both consoles have some features likely tucked away for a reveal at a later date, the coronavirus health pandemic is causing plenty of problems across the board.

Several events and expos have been cancelled or postponed, video game studios have resorted to working at home and we’ve seen some games get pushed back from either longer than expected development times or shipping issues to get the games out into the market physically. While both Microsoft and Sony are still supporting the idea of their platforms releasing into the market this holiday season. Recently, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox had a chance to talk with CNBC where the question came up about the Xbox Series X meeting its release date scheduled.

According to Phil Spencer, the team feels confident about the launch of the Xbox Series X into the market this holiday season, but he doesn’t have the same confidence level for the video game titles. While there haven’t been too many video games unveiled for the Xbox Series X, we’re supposed to get a stream highlighting the games this week. Unfortunately, some of those games may not make the launch as Phil Spencer stated to CNBC that the team is more worried about the health and safety of their employees and it could mean we’re not going to see some video games release alongside the Xbox Series X.

Of course, there is no official release date yet for both the Xbox Series X and the line of video games that may come out for it. With that said, we should expect the XSX to come out before the end of this year. In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see what games are being developed that have yet to be revealed.
