Titanfall Could Push 10 Million Units, if the Metacritic Score is Right

January 9, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

It’ll take some positive critical buzz to really push Titanfall’s sales over the edge.

Predicting game sales isn’t easy. Who on earth would have thought that Minecraft would sell as much as it has based on its graphics and aimless nature? However, it’s fun to at least take a stab at what a piece of software will do, which is exactly what Wedbush industry analyst Michael Pachter did when contacted by iGR.

What will really determine the success of Respawn Entertainment’s first release is the Metacritic score, in the eyes of Pachter. He puts Titanfall in the 6-10 million range, with the lower number coming if the game scores around an 80 on the reviews aggregate site.

“My best guess is 6 – 10 million units, depending upon the game review scores,” he wrote. “If it gets above a 90, it will likely be at the high end of that range, below an 80, at the low end.”

People have been buzzing about Titanfall ever since it was first announced, and other than the recent revelation that multiplayer matches will remain at a 12-player maximum, the press has been extremely positive. As long as those vibes persist once the game launches, you can expect EA to get a big payday from the March shooter.
