The standalone edition of DayZ is currently undergoing its alpha test right now. Unlike other games in alpha, DayZ is available as an early access title on Steam, allowing players to experience the zombie survival sim first hand, without having to rely on previews by members of the press to inform them on the game’s development.
To that end, the game—still in its early stages—is suffering from a myriad of issues. Notably, players have experienced ‘rubber-banding’, as latency causes them to jump from spot to spot.
Players who’ve experienced the bug describe it as ‘unbearable’.
“2 of us going for it at point blank with our axes & glitching all over the place,” wrote one player on Reddit. “He was in front of me when I swung, but all of a sudden appears over my left shoulder. So I turn left to have another crack & swing again only to find him 20 meters in front of me etc etc. Kind of frustrating but we were pissing ourselves laughing as we were taunting each other in between all the ricochet sounds from us missing & hitting walls & the ground.”
The game’s lead developer, Dean Hall, reports on Twitter that the team is well aware of the issues and have discovered a big performance bug that affects servers, creating rubber-banding and numerous other bugs.
“Big performance bug discovered that sometimes affected servers, creating rubber-banding and other bugs. Pos fix in testing. #DayZDaily,” wrote Hall on Twitter, suggesting that a fix is imminent.
