Saints Row 4 Goes Moe And Gar With Its New Anime Pack DLC

January 7, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Deep Silver’s take on anime tropes is a little suspiciously lazy, but hey, at least the price is right.

Deep Silver are up to their usual mischief again! Disrupting the flow of news from CES, they have announced some new DLC for Saints Row 4; introducing the Anime Pack. Tongue rolling in cheek so hard it is downright painful, Anime Pack features one male and female costume, as well as a new sword and gun.

First off, they offer up the Braver Sword to ‘slice many people of the bad.’ While it’s not as oversized as Cloud’s or Nightmare’s blades, this one can actually cut through people in game, so that’s a definite step up.

And then, there’s Kaiju-XL, the prerequisite oversized gun that ‘makes little of foes.’ No screenshots of this one in action, but I would be sorely disappointed if this one didn’t dole out 90s’ anime style explosions.

Lastly, your characters can be customized with hair and costume options. The guys can get their hair done Fist of the North Star style, and swipe Cloud’s Buster uniform off of Lightning. Girls can get a hair and outfit reminiscent of Vocaloid star Hatsune Miku, conveniently recolored pink.

Novelty factor aside, the constumes actually seem a little jarring in comparison to the gaming world you inhabit. I must also confess, I feel like Deep Silver could have come up with other options that would have actually looked cool instead of kitsch. But heck, that’s what future DLC packs are for, and for what it is, Deep Silver have made it cheap enough. You can get the Anime Pack for $ 1.99 on Steam, starting today.
