More Departures at EA: Chillingo Founders Quit

January 6, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Byatte and Wee are the latest in a string of studio founders to leave EA.

Chillingo founders Chris Byatte and Joe Wee have left Electronic Arts according to MCV.

The duo founded the mobile games publisher in 2005 and launched a number of key titles including Cut the Rope and the original Angry Birds.

EA acquired the company in 2010 for $20 million in cash. Following the takeover Byatte became director while Wee was appointed studio manager on behalf of EA.

The departure of Byatte and Wee follows news that Popcap's remaining founders Dave Roberts and Jason Kapalka are leaving the now EA-owned company, while the founders at EA’s Criterion studio, Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, have also departed to form a "new games company".

It's currently unclear how Chillingo's operations have been affected by the changes.
