GTA 5 Getting Substantial Updates In The Future

December 10, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

In the meantime, GTA Online’s Deathmatch and Race Creators beta is now online.

Rockstar Games has announced that they are releasing a substantial update to Grand Theft Auto 5, aside from continuing updates to GTA Online.

Not much details to add here, only that Rockstar confirms gameplay will involve Michael, Franklin and Trevor, and that the new content will be set in Southern San Andreas.

In terms of confirmed GTA Online content, they have already released Deathmatch and Race Creators Beta. You will now be able to design races and deathmatches, and post them on the Rockstar Games Social Club to share and get feedback on. Players will also be able to customize Jobs for Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Race, GTA Race, and Rally Race.

User created jobs that turn out well will receive distinction from Rockstar themselves as Rockstar Verified Jobs. They are also adding in a new Capture Mode, similar to Capture the Flag, and utilizing four on four gameplay, as well as vehicle based weapons action.

Also in the way soon are GTA Online Heists. Rockstar has even less to say about this than the update on GTA 5, but they say they are planning to share more details next year.

It seems safe to expect GTA 5 updates to be story expansions in the same vein of GTA 4 expansions. For that game, the expansions had you playing a new character, who had his own story and missions going on. There were points where the story of the expansions intersected with that of the original game.

Spoiler below

As you may know, one of the possible final outcomes in GTA 5 has you, playing as Franklin, killing either Michael or Trevor. We don’t know yet if this will figure in the upcoming additional content, but it would seem the only possible outcomes are: they use the ending where all three characters survive as canon, they go to prior parts of the story, or they ignore continuity altogether. My curiosity is piqued, although I can’t say I expect this to turn out all that well.
