Ouya Now Takes Bitcoin

December 5, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Micro-console company now accepting Bitcoin as payment.

Ouya has announced that the company behind the micro-console of the same name now accepts payment in Bitcoin for games, the console, and controllers.

The news was revealed on Twitter:

Included in the tweet is an image of Ouya's checkout page which clearly shows the Bitcoin payment option. You can get a better look at the payment option on the Ouya forums here.

Bitcoin was developed as a finite, open source, peer-to-peer electronic currency network. The payment method uses cryptography to complete and secure monetary transactions and Bitcoins are tied to generated addresses on users' hardware, online services, or paper notices.

The currency has proven controversial with regulators and banks for existing outside the traditional monetary system. Bitcoin's creator, who goes by the name Satoshi Nakamoto, has never been found and is believed by experts to be a group rather than an individual.
