Sega Trademarks Shenmue 3, Could a New Game be in The Works?

November 27, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Sega may have plans to revive the Shenmue series with Shenmue 3.

Update: There is some dispute as to whether the application is real. If you look it up for yourself on the database, it's there—it's not photoshopped. Needless to say, we're treating this one with a grain of salt and will update the post accordingly with any new information that surfaces regarding the application.

Shenmue is a series that's long since been collecting dust on Sega's shelves, alongside many other venerated franchises to be put out by the Japanese publisher over the years.

Today however, Sega appears to have registered a trademark for Shenmue 3, or "Shenmue III", as reads the trademark. The trademark is described as a "computer game programs, computer game software, video game software, video game programs," etc. making it none other than a registration for a video game. See it for yourself:

You can look it up yourself under the trademark number "012341509" at the Trade Marks and Designs Registration Office of the European Union website here.
