Dontnod Announces New Game, Tell Me Why, With Playable Transgender Protagonist; Watch Announcement Trailer Here

November 19, 2019 by Jordan Biazzo

This is very exciting new venture for Dontnod!

Dontnod announced yet another title slated to release in 2020 at XO19, which has caught the gaming community’s interest as the upcoming game will be one of the first games to feature a transgender protagonist.

Known for their fabulous work on the Life is Strange franchise, Dontnod’s upcoming Tell Me Why title, will follow the studios signature storytelling, mature themes, and difficult choices. The game will tell a story of Alaskan-based twins who have a special bond to uncover mysteries of their loving but troubled childhood.

Players should expect some craziness from developer Dontnod Entertainment, as they are infamous for creating deep, thrilling, and mature stories that have players super immersed for hours upon hours. All chapters are set to release on the Xbox One in Summer, 2020.

Check out the official announcement trailer for Tell Me Why down below:

Thanks to the official blog post on the Xbox Wire, the developers and Microsoft detailed that they have been working closely alongside the LGBTQ media advocacy organization GLAAD in shaping Tyler as an authentic representation of the trans experience, as well as a genuine, multidimensional character.

Tyler is also the first playable video game hero from a major studio and publisher who is also transgender. Nick Adams, Director of Transgender Representation at GLAAD explains the approach for Tyler in Tell Me Why, check it out down below:

“Microsoft and DONTNOD have approached Tyler with a real commitment to authenticity. Tyler is a fully-realized, endearing character, whose story is not reduced to simplistic trans tropes. Creating a playable lead trans character – and taking such care to get it right – raises the bar for future LGBTQ inclusion in gaming.”
