Insomniac Games Files ‘Cloudless’ Trademark

November 4, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

Insomniac files a Service Mark Trademark for the Cloudless name.

Insomniac prepares for the next generation of consoles with a trademark filing to secure the name Cloudless.

The trademark application mentions "entertainment services, namely, providing online video games." NeoGAF users noticed that this application; however, refers to a Service Mark. Service Marks operate differently from regular trademarks as they help distinguish a service rather than secure the name of a product.

Insomniac Games revealed their multiplayer Xbox One exclusive, Sunset Overdrive, during E3 this past June. The Cloudless trademark may refer to something related to Sunset Overdrive, but that still remains unknown.

Insomniac discussed Sunset Overdrive and its use of the Xbox One's cloud services. Sunset Overdrive uses the Azure cloud for data collection and to update content frequently. The Cloudless trademark may hint at a way to access all of the game's cloud features without the need for an internet connection.

In the meantime, Insomniac Games continues development on their PlayStation 3 title, Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus.
