“High-End” Battlefield Mobile Game Currently in Development

October 21, 2013 by Yesika Reyes

Electronic Arts’ head of mobile development Frank Gibeau outed the development of a Battlefield mobile game.

In an interview with the New York Times, Frank Gibeau, Electronice Arts Head of Mobile Development, revealed that EA is developing a "hign-end" Battlefield mobile game.

This revelation was prompted by the question, "Can a game like Battlefield really be enjoyable on a smaller screen?"

"You can play Battlefield on a tablet in commander mode. We are working on a mobile game of Battlefield that will be high-end and high-performance. It’s our bet that we can successfully pull that off. But we’re embarking on something no one has ever done before — to get these games to inter-operate between platforms. Will it work? It already has in some cases. Will it work for all franchises? Not all franchises will make the transition. Battlefield might be a little harder," Gibeau answered.

Earlier this month, we uncovered a job listing that revealed that DICE is looking for developers to help bring the Frostbite engine to mobile platforms. This could suggest that popular franchises, not just Battlefield, utilizing DICE's engine might be getting their own "high-end" mobile game in the future.

The latest game in the franchise Battlefied 4 will be released on October 29th for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.
