EA Doesn’t Think Gamers Want Their Titles On Nintendo Switch

August 1, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

EA CEO explains the lack of games on the Nintendo Switch platform.

When Nintendo released the Wii U it was not the success the company had hoped for. A good reason for that was the fact that there wasn’t a good support system from third-party developers. As a result, the system missed a good amount of video game titles that were enjoyed on the competition platforms. That was one aspect that the Nintendo company was hoping to avoid with the Nintendo Switch. Luckily, that support system has been present as we’ve seen plenty of ports and releases on the Nintendo Switch to keep the player base enjoying new video games regularly.

With that said, the Nintendo Switch was another platform well worth enjoying from the hybrid home console and portable gaming system as well. This hybrid console has been a hit and is even receiving a lite edition which comes with a cheaper price tag but loses out on select features. Despite the console platform success, it looks like EA is one company that is not sold on the idea of this gaming system being a viable platform for their video game titles.

During a Q&A with investors, EA CEO, Andrew Wilson, spoke about the platform and why there is a lack of video games being ported over. According to Andrew Wilson, EA has data that shows most Nintendo Switch owners own another console or a gaming PC and for their video game titles, competitor platforms are were the EA titles tend to sell well. Likewise, the studio also looks at the ecosystem for the platform and decides if the owners would find the game appealing for the particular console.
