Facebook Reportedly Secures Assassin’s Creed & Splinter Cell VR Games For Oculus Rift

July 12, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Are we finally getting a new Splinter Cell game?

The VR platform is constantly growing and while some may have saw it as nothing more than a gimmick, the likes of Oculus, HTC Vive and PS VR continues to show that gamers enjoy strapping on the headset in order to get lost in virtual worlds. We’ve seen plenty of new IPs release fro VR headsets but we’ve also seen already established franchises bring out new virtual reality releases. For instance, we can point to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as an example which had received a VR port. Now, it seems that we may get an Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell VR adaptations exclusively on the Oculus Rift platform.

Reported from the publication, The Information, it seems that Facebook has signed a deal that secures an exclusive VR version of both Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell franchises. This report doesn’t go into detail about what the two games may hold for players or just when it will release, but it’s interesting to see Splinter Cell being included in the mix. It’s been several years since we’ve received a Splinter Cell title and it’s been brought up quite a lot these past few months though Ubisoft has kept quiet.

The Information report seems to have acquired this exclusive deal news from two of their sources familiar with the matter, but they also mentioned that Ubisoft declined to comment on the story so we have to label this as a rumor for now. At any rate, if Facebook secured an exclusive deal with these two franchises then it could really drive gamers in purchasing the Oculus Rift S or even the Oculus Quest. Again, details are a bit scarce right now and it’s likely that we may not hear anything about these two games for a good while as nothing was shared during Ubisoft’s E3 2019 press conference this past month.

With all this said, how do you feel about a Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell VR title? It’s a franchise that’s well beloved by gamers around the world, but it certainly would be a unique take on the series if this game opts to make a jump from the traditional console release.
