Lords of the Fallen Sequel Development Withdrawn from Defiant Studios by CI Games ‘Due to Quality Issues’
Lords of the Fallen is the closest thing you can get to a From Software game in terms of brutality. The original title released back in 2014, developed by Deck13 Interactive at the time, and was included in Sony’s September 2016 PlayStation Plus free games lineup. Shortly after, CI Games revealed a sequel is in development, but decided to go with Defiant Studios, considering Deck13’s commitment to The Surge at the time.
Recently, CI Games withdrew Lords of the Fallen 2’s development rights from the studio as they saw apparent “quality issues,” and will turn to in-house development for the meantime. Defiant Studios’ founder and managing director David Grijns provided Eurogamer with a statement criticizing CI Games’ claim against their development quality through providing examples of Defiant Studios previous work on several renowned titles.
The team that was working on CI Games’ project was comprised of exceedingly talented developers whose work we fully stand behind. Our team knows how to build quality games as is evident by their key roles in Just Cause 3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Far Cry 5, Devil May Cry (DmC) and many other top tier projects
As we intend to abide by our contractual confidentiality obligations, at this time we cannot expand further on this matter
Lords of the Fallen 2’s development is ongoing normally, as CI Games switched into in-house development after the incident. There is no news on whether or not they will seek another developer’s help, but we will make sure to keep you updated once more information is available.
