Here comes a new batch of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII screenshots, revealing the return of Caius, with his persistent companion Yeul, and also showing Lightning facing off against Snow and Noel.
Before that though, we have a new trailer showing off Lightning's many outfits in the different locales of Nova Chrysalia. Remember, these outfits aren't just for show; they will affect her stats and combat abilities so you'll want to see this.

Caius Ballad is one of the most perplexing antagonists in Final Fantasy lore. It can be argued that Caius is not a bad guy at all. Originally a Pulse l’Cie, he has become the seeress Yeul’s immortal protection. Caius sees Yeul’s endless cycle of reincarnation, and hopes to end her misery by ending the cycle. It was with this in mind that he engaged Lightning in battle, and manipulated Lightning’s sister Serah, as well as his own protégé Noel, to move events forward in Final Fantasy XIII-2 to reach this goal.
Paddra Nsu-Yeul is a seeress who is fated to die in a young age, only to be reborn over and over across the centuries. She foresaw the destruction of the Paddra civilization hundreds of years ago, and retreated from the public, presumably to watch over civilization. Now, Yeul has been freed from her curse of reincarnation, and she talks to Lightning in the hope that Lightning can save Caius.
It was hinted at in earlier screenshots, but now we have confirmed Lightning will be facing down her old friends Snow and Noel. Could this possibly end well for any of them? Expect Lightning Returns to bring even more plot twists and surprise revelations as Square Enix winds down the saga of Lightning and brings a spectacular finale to the Fabula Nova Crystallis series.
