Square Enix has confirmed Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is going into server maintenance this coming September 11 for 10 hours, from 5 PM to 3 AM the following day PDT. For European followers, this runs September 12 midnight until 10 AM. At this time, the game will be completely unavailable

Square Enix already installed Duty Finder and expanded the servers in previous days. Aside from maintenance, this update is intended to enhance Instance Worlds, add more content to all the Worlds, improve Duty Finder performance, and address other smaller issues. They also explain you will see an automatic update to your client when this update launches, so you can forget about staying logged in.

Of course, they anticipate a rush to login after the maintenance period ends as well, so they recommend users who fail to get in to try again at a later time. At the moment, Square Enix has not given specific details on which particular issues are being addressed.

Naoki Yoshida came online three days ago to provide more details on what they have been able to accomplish so far. Servers should now be able to handle about 600,000 concurrent connections, with servers now capable of handling 325,000 simultaneous logins, and each World able to handle between 7,300 to 7,800 simultaneous logins. Digital purchases are still on hold as they continue to make improvements to the system.

Does hope spring eternal to you that Square Enix is going to get their act together? Plans are still underway to bring this game over to the Playstation 4.
