Ryse: Son of Rome Video Focuses on Brutal Clashes

September 4, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

Ryse: Son of Rome developers explain the combat.

Launching on November 22nd with the Xbox One, Ryse: Son of Rome will attempt to show the power of the Xbox One console.  The latest gameplay trailer from Crytek, in glorious 360p, focuses on the combat as the developers explain sword play and finishing off enemies with executions.

Combat in Ryse will focus on crowd control. Surrounded by numerous enemies, players must focus on all enemies, not just a single one, to avoid blows from behind. Using both his shield and sword, Marius Titus will try to wear his enemy down to eventually open an opportunity for a brutal execution.

To bring authenticity to the combat, the team at Crytek held played with actual weapons to understand the weight and feel of the Roman weaponry. So when Marius Titus jams his sword through the rib cage of an enemy, the developers can properly animate Marius' stab to show the weight and effort of his movements.

Ryse: Son of Rome will launch exclusive on the Xbox One.
