Rainbow Six Siege New Outback Map Showcased in Latest Trailer

Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege entered its fourth year, and back in December, the studio detailed what it holds in terms of content to the game over the next 12 months. Earlier this week, Operation Burnt Horizon was revealed, after a couple of leaks and teasers. The Australian-set expansion brings dedicated operators, a new map, and more.

The studio gave Rainbow fans a sneak peak on the new Outback map, set in Australia’s Red Heart. The map is a “homage to all the dusty service stations and motels that populate the forgotten highways of the continent, places filled with hardworking locals and specialty menu items you’ll find nowhere else.” Rainbow Six Siege assistant level designer Jacques Wong discussed the map’s design, since it features three main points, the Garage, the Motel, and the Restaurant. He continued to talk about the development team’s effort to make each section of the map distinguishable, even from far away.

Welcome to the Outback! Set in Australia’s Red Heart, this map is an homage to all the dusty service stations and motels that populate the forgotten highways of the continent, places filled with hardworking locals and specialty menu items you’ll find nowhere else.

Unfortunately for this particular pit stop, a passing nuclear convoy came crashing to a halt while under attack, forcing locals and patrons to flee and causing Rainbow to be called in. As to what inspired the team when designing the game’s 21st map, Assistant Level Design Director Jacques Wong says they referred to two fan favorites – Oregon and Clubhouse. […] Get ready for rooms packed with souvenirs and cultural artifacts from many a roadside petrol station across the Great Southern Land. You might even run into our friendly resident mascot, Norman, in the restaurant, though we do ask that you try not to stare.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Operation Burnt Horizon expansion goes live on February 17, during the Six Invitational tournament held in Montreal. Make sure to check out the map’s trailer below for a better view on how it will play, its environment, and more.
