Square Enix Warns Gamers Over Streaming Kingdom Hearts 3

January 28, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Streamers beware.

Tomorrow is the day where gamers are finally able to get their hands on a copy of Kingdom Hearts 3. We’ve waited years for the third main installment to finally release and now that we’re gearing up to its release, we’re finding one more issue which may prove to cause some headaches for gamers. It looks like there may be a few hoops to jump through if you wish to stream the game online for viewers to enjoy. Unfortunately, there weren’t too many details yet online to suggest just what is forbidden from streamers but for now, it does seem that an area or two will be restricted from being used in your streaming channels.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently available within Japan and reviewers are currently chipping away at the game for their scores and critiques, but one thing that is already being relayed online is the fact that there will be some streaming restrictions. In fact, at the title screen, there is a menu that can be triggered which will bring up the streaming restrictions. For starters, under no circumstances does it appear that streamers can use the in-game music. This is also a title that streamers can’t enjoy commercially. You can read the full warning message presented in the game down below.

This game is a copyrighted work. The copyright is held by The Walt Disney Company and a collaboration of authors representing The Walt Disney Company. Additionally, the copyright of certain characters is held by Square Enix Co, Ltd.

You are free to stream the game in non-commercial contexts. However, using the streams of the game to primarily provide or listen to the music is prohibited even in such non-commercial contexts.

For more information on the terms of use related to streaming the game, please see the official Kingdom Hearts site. https://kingdomhearts.com/3

Kotaku, who alerted users of the warning message and reached out to Square Enix in order to see just what would be allowed for streamers have yet to receive a full answer. There is currently no information on the main Kingdom Hearts website but this may change when the game finally releases into the worldwide markets. For now, players can pick up Kingdom Hearts 3, tomorrow, January 29, 2019, for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
