Iwata: Porting Nintendo Games to Other Platforms Not Being Considered

August 8, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Company’s ‘precious resources’ won’t be spent on other platforms.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told CVG that it's his priority to ensure the long-tern viability of the company rather than pursue short-term fixes.

"If I was to take responsibility for the company for just the next one or two years, and if I was not concerned about the long-term future of Nintendo at all, it might make sense for us to provide our important franchises for other platforms, and then we might be able to gain some short-term profit," Iwata commented.

"However, I'm really responsible for the long-term future of Nintendo as well, so I would never think about providing our precious resources for other platforms at all."

He adds that it has become harder to meet gamers' expectations of Nintendo, "So we are facing more challenges than ever – that's true.

"But it's nothing new for Nintendo. Nintendo is a company that has never stopped progressing, and when it comes to the fan-base, of course, we have to sustain that, but we are always trying to expand that."

Nintendo's recent results saw the company return to profitability due largely to the success of the 3DS in recent months but also highlighted the extent to which the Wii U is failing to attract attention with just 160,000 consoles sold in the first quarter of financial year 2014.

While Vita owners can't expect to see Pokemon on an OLED and PS3/Xbox 360 won't be getting their hands on Zelda or Metroid anytime soon Nintendo has released a paid Pokedex app on iOS devices.
