Shadow of the Colossus Tops The Last of Us on July PSN Sales Chart

August 8, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Naughty Dog’s latest blockbuster has been toppled by a giant.

Discounts really make all the difference when it comes to sales charts. Although Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us has taken a sturdy grip on the top of U.K. charts, the narrative-driven experience failed to secure the gold on the PlayStation Network during the month of July. Instead of being toppled by a major debut or a casual title like Angry Birds, it was Shadow of the Colossus that ran away with the number one spot thanks to little help from the Summer Blast sale.

That’s right: Sony’s efforts to discount older games during the summer months seem to be paying off quite nicely. The now-classic PlayStation 2 game was the best selling digital title in the month of July, while The Last of Us still put up a commendable fight at the second spot. Other games worth of note include Mortal Kombat and Batman: Arkham Asylum, which also saw reduced prices and more purchases during the sale.
