Take-Two Renews Trademark for Rockstar’s Agent

July 23, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Somehow, the long-winded story of Agent continues with a new trademark.

We’ve heard virtually nothing on Take-Two and Rockstar Games’ Agent, which was revealed all the way back in July, 2007 as a Rockstar North spy game taking place during the cold war era. At the time, it was being touted as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and really, it was one that Sony really could have used to build some momentum at the time. Its absence from multiple E3 events has led many people to believe that the project has been canned, but the discovery of a renewed trademark by Siliconera has breathed a bit of life into the whole situation.

The filing, which applies to video games, computer games, online video games, and various printed materials, was submitted just days ago on July 18. The logo, pictured above, is seemingly unchanged, as the filing notes, “The mark consists of the word ‘AGENT’ with the shape of a handgun comprising the internal section of the letter ‘G.’”

Little else can be gathered from the document, but if you remember, we were promised a “groundbreaking new IP” from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick just months ago. Maybe this is the game we’ve been looking for.

"We also have an extraordinary pipeline of titles in development for next-generation platforms, including groundbreaking new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises,” Zelnick said during a financial statement.

Whatever the case, don’t expect Agent to be a PlayStation 3 game if it ever actually comes out. If anything, look for this mystery game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at a later date.
