A Sony representative at Comic-Con has informed Polygon that the PlayStation 4 will support the wireless headsets used for PS3.
PS4 owners will find their own mono headset in earbud form in the box but Xbox One owners will have to specially buy a headset as Microsoft want users to take advantage of the Kinect sensor's voice driven commands and inputs. In addition, the Xbox One will not be compatible with previous-generation headsets.
This is due to the fact that the Xbox One has a new headset port. It has been suggested that Microsoft may be producing an adaptor for Xbox 360 headsets to work with the Xbox One but as of now, they are not compatible. Microsoft's comments on the matter have neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of an adaptor.
Both the PS4 and the Xbox One are making their public debuts this week at San Diego Comic-Con and will be playable by the public.
The PS4 and Xbox One are set to be released later this year for $399 and $499 respectively.
It's unclear if non-Sony PS3 headsets will be compatible with PS4 and the company has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
