Epic Games Hiring Designer for Unannounced Competitive Online Action Game

July 5, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

What looks to be a new IP is in the works at Epic Games.

Epic Games might not be staffed with as much talent as we’ve seen in the past, but that doesn’t mean the massive company isn’t still working on new, exciting products for the world to enjoy. Currently, we know that the Minecraft-inspired Fortnite is being developed for PC – even if we haven’t seen anything from the game in quite some time. However, a job listing that was just discovered tells of a different, unannounced gaming coming from the studio that will focus on what Epic does best: action.

A fresh generation of consoles means new, exciting opportunities to a developer like Epic. Instead of just relying on the Gears of War name, it looks as if these two new products will define just who this development house is. Mike Capps, Cliff Bleszinski, and many other recognizable faces are no longer representing the Epic Games name, and that means this could be a whole new beginning.

“Epic Games is looking for a Systems Designers to join one of two projects. One of the teams is working on an unannounced competitive online action game that includes player progression, heavy itemization, and a dynamic economy; the other is for Fortnite,” the post reads. “In either of these roles you’ll be working on the biggest most important systems and will have a hand in designing everything from economics and itemization to balancing combat mechanics.”

A game with a dynamic economy doesn’t exactly sound like a new Gears of War, so hopefully we’re talking about a never-before-seen property here. For now, though, Fortnite will likely be the focus until its release.
