The PlayStation website has revealed that every PlayStation 4 will come pre-installed with Playroom which combines the DUALSHOCK 4's light bar and the PlayStation Camera, which is sold separately.
The light bar and camera combine in a similar fashion to the existing PlayStation Eye camera in order to create augmented reality experiences – specifically mentioned is the ability to unleash hundreds of miniature robots into your living room.
According to the official description Playroom allows users to get to grips with the inner workings of the DUALShock 4 and the title is called "a fantastically fresh augmented reality entertainment experience which combines the innovative PlayStation Camera with the incredible DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller to turn the area around you into a technological playground."
The fact that Playroom comes with every PS4 would seem to lend credence to reports that Sony originally intended to include the camera with the console but dropped it in a bid to ensure they could sell the system for $399. Even with the camera, which costs $60, the PS4 is still $40 cheaper than the Xbox One.
Sony intends to launch the PS4 this holiday season. While Sony may still be pushing what augmented reality can do, virtual reality firm Oculus Rift has previously said they'd love to be compatible with the console.
