Beyond Good & Evil 2: ‘Possible but Painful’ on Current Consoles

July 2, 2013 by Stephen Daly

If we’re going to see Jade and Pey’j again it looks like we’ll have to wait for PS4 and Xbox One.

GameReactor has transcribed an interview with Ubisoft's Michel Ancel from last week's GameLab conference in Barcelona in which Ancel spoke about the long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2 saying the game would be "possible" but "painful" on current generation consoles.

"I think [on current platforms] Beyond Good & Evil 2 was possible, but it'd be painful. It's always possible to do anything on any kind of console, but sometimes you need to spend your energy not doing optimisations or things like that.

"Now that we have the [new] consoles around the corner we're working on them. We're trying to see how we can get the power out of those consoles because there are still things we need to understand on those consoles, but yes, Beyond Good & Evil is a project I always have in mind and I hope good things will come for this project very soon."

Ealier this year Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in development and he recently commented, "We had a period where we had a demo that went out before it was quite ready, so everybody saw something that appealed to them. That's why I think they keep expecting something. But I can't say much more than that."

Guillemot was most likely referring to the UbiDays trailer from 2008.  Based on the what Ancel and Guillemot have to say on the matter it seems that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is something that's ongoing but still someway off. Even so, it looks like the game may be headed to PS4 and Xbox One.
