Bethesda Addresses Prey 2 Rumors, Comments on Human Head Statements

June 19, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

There’s two sides to this convoluted story.

Prey 2 just wasn’t up the Bethesda’s standards. That seems to be the story when it comes to the highly anticipated, open-world shooter. Bethesda was pumping millions of dollars into Human Head’s interesting sequel, but after a while, the publisher didn’t see the value in continuing to fund the game. There’s been plenty of controversy surrounding the game’s development halt, and Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines has decided to come out and address a few of the key rumors floating about.

April was the last time we heard an official statement about the game, and according to Hines, that’s just because nothing substantial has happened that needs to be discussed.

“We appreciate that folks are displeased that we haven’t had any update or any info on Prey 2, but whatever your displeasure is, you can’t even be remotely as unhappy about it as us,” Hines told IGN. “We spent years and millions of dollars and a ton of effort trying to help Human Head make a great Prey 2 game. What we said the last time we said anything was that it’s not up to our quality standards."

Hines knows it just wasn’t good enough, but if you’ve been following a few of the developers who were working on the game, you’ve heard a much more positive story. It’s difficult to pick a side, but Hines has been around for the whole mess. He knows why things have happened the way they’ve happened.

“I think all of the stuff that you’ve heard at this point has been from one side of this, and it’s been somebody putting spin on it, like, ‘here’s what happened.’ No, that’s your version of what you think happened,” he said. “As we said in our last update, it’s not good enough. It’s not where it needs to be. When we have more info than that, we’ll let you know.”

Hopefully, this update isn’t too far down the road. And who knows – we may even hear a few more rumors before Bethesda’s ready to talk.
