EA Responds To Backlash Of Having Female Soliders In Battlefield V

June 13, 2018 by Jordan Coetsee

EA takes a stand for diversity.

Many gamers have been in an uproar when it comes to female representation in the historic shooters Battlefield 1 and the upcoming Battlefield V. The narrative has mainly been centered around the historical inaccuracy of the representation, and it’s a contrast to other ‘realistic’ representations of the World Wars the studio pushes.

EA has actually acknowledged the backlash, taking a stance of indifference on the matter. In an interview with Gamasutra, EA chief creative officer Patrick Söderlund pushes the diversity, stating “We stand up for the cause, because I think those people who don’t understand it, well, you have two choices: either accept it or don’t buy the game,” he says. “I’m fine with either or.” According to Söderlund, the dev team actually also pushed for diversity in the upcoming shooter.

The issue was highlighted last month with the trending hashtag #NotMyBattlefield, splitting the community into two. Where do you stand on the spectrum of conversation?
