EA Debuts Official Trailer For Plants Vs. Zombies 2, Expected This Summer

The much beloved Plants vs. Zombies, the mobile title that later went on to take over nearly every gaming device known to man (do you own it for your NOOK yet?) will finally see a sequel this upcoming summer. Aptly subtitled It's About Time!, EA and PopCap have released an official trailer, embedded above for your viewing pleasure.

As a long time fan, I've eyed this sequel with wary suspicion; that EA fired the game's creator and many other key PopCap staff members does not inspire confidence in the game's creative direction. In the two years since the publishing giant acquired the studio, PopCap has more or less become their mobile arm, and at the expense of player comfort as new monetization efforts have "spoiled" some of the classics by adding chintzy player incentives and pay-to-win options (Tetris Blitz comes to mind). I don't expect Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time! to buck this trend, but instead reinforce it.

That being said, the trailer is highly entertaining. I won't spoil it for you but I will say, it makes the idea of a PvZ sequel somewhat grow on me. Going by the content I'd say we're in for a little time travel in the sequel, which would of course explain the name.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time! is expected this upcoming July 2013 for iPad, iPhone, and iPhone Touch.
