Killzone Devs: PS4 Proven to be Easiest Platform to Develop on

May 30, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Guerrilla Games is excited for a bright future on the PlayStation 4.

Yes, there will be a new Killzone game coming this fall. This will be the fourth main-line title in this gritty, graphically impressive franchise since its debut back on the PlayStation 2, but don’t write off Shadow Fall as just another gray shooter trying to make it big. This time around, Guerrilla Games is adding a whole new color palette to the world, and the interesting look is all thanks to the power of the PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation Blog has just posted a Conversations with the Creators of this Sony staple, and while there’s no new gameplay to be seen (everything in the video is from the February Sony event), the team has some great things to say about the upcoming console.

“PlayStation 4 has proven to us to be the easiest platform so far to developer for,” said Angie Smets, executive producer of Shadow Fall. “From day one, the tool chain was just up and running. As a developer, it’s very critical that you don’t lose that time early on in the process as you want to work on the game and not the development environment.”

Developers not only enjoy creative freedom, but also the ability to take advantage of the most powerful hardware on the market. For Guerilla, many of the limitations that the team has been faced with in the past are lifted on the PS4.

“The boundaries that you’re used to? You don’t need to take them into account anymore,” Smets continued. “You can just start dreaming of anything.”

We haven’t seen too much on this Sony exclusive quite yet, but look for a full demo during next month’s E3 event.
