We may just be a day away from the Microsoft’s reveal of the next Xbox product, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t do a bit of old-fashioned speculation. Analysts and denizens of forums are currently scouring the internet for new information to leak, and one credible source seems to have just discovered two major pieces of news.
Paul Thurrott, a technology blogger and noted speculator of all things concerning the next Xbox, recently took to Twitter to make two very bold claims about tomorrow’s Xbox reveal.
“A couple of Xbox news tidbits ahead of the launch,” Thurrott wrote. “Illumiroom will be part of the Tuesday event. Subsidized Xbox Next model has been scrapped.”
This leads to quite a few questions. Firstly, it will be interesting to see in what capacity the Illumiroom will be featured. Will it be just another bullet point in a jam-packed show, or a leading feature meant to woo the casual crowds tuning in? We’ve seen some video of the technology in the past, and it seems to be a pretty interesting way to immerse gamers even further into another world.
Also, the word “scrapped” is an odd one when talking about the possible subsidized Xbox model. It’s unclear whether or not Thurrott means that it has simply been scrapped as part of this hour-long broadcast, or as a whole. We’ve heard plenty of rumors about a new style of payment for the box, so to scrap it this far into development would be an interesting turn of events.
This is some big news, but all of the claims will have to be backed up tomorrow during the event.
