Ubisoft Reveals Splinter Cell: Blacklist Pre-order Incentives

April 22, 2013 by Stephen Daly

The US and Europe to receive different collector’s editions.

The pre-order incentives for Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Blacklist have sneaked their way online with it being announced that the US will be getting the Collector's Edition while Europe can look forward to the Ultimatum Edition.

Ubisoft also revealed the details for the Wii U version of the game which will only come in a standard edition. The version of the game for NIntendo's console will allow gamers to control drones and cameras using the Wii U GamePad's touch screen features as well as manage inventory and track friends' progress.

The Collector's Edition and Ultimatum Edition will both be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in their respective regions.

The Collector's Edition will include:

  • A dual engine remote-controlled airplane with a retail value of $150 from Custom 3.
  • An 88 page limited edition illustrated Splinter Cell graphic novel.
  • The exclusive Billionaire's Yacht co-op multiplayer map.
  • Bonus Upper Echelon Pack with Dead Coast co-op map, gold sonar goggles and Upper Echelon Suit.
  • A limited edition Sam Fisher poster.

The Ultimatum Edition meanwhile offers a very different assortment of bonuses.

  • A Special Ops digital watch.
  • Soft Touch controller box.
  • 24 page Splinter Cell Echoes graphic novel.
  • The Dead Coast and Billionaire's Yacht co-op maps.
  • Gold goggles and boots.
  • The Upper Echelon suit.

Developer Ubisoft Toronto's Jade Raymond told GamesIndustry "The thing with Splinter Cell is there [are] some very vocal fans who really love the series and they really love it for certain reasons.

"There are certain modern expectation of a game and I think that sometimes figuring out how you innovate and modernise and bring something new while still bringing all the nostalgic things that are dear to fans… finding a balance of innovating while staying true to the the roots has been one of the big challenges, but not one driven by (Ubisoft) management – it's about wanting to please the fans."

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is due for release on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC on August 20th.
