Rockstar Breaks their Silence on ‘GTA 5’

Grand Theft Auto 5 sees some discussion.

The development of Grand Theft Auto 5 has been interesting for fans to follow, and the game isn’t even out yet. While it’s normal for both developers and publishers to stay quiet until closer to a game’s release, GTA 5 has taken it to another level. Perhaps this is why the developer did some fire management in a comment on its release date announcement.

"As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don't do this because we 'don't care about our fans', 'don't respect our fans', 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite!”

Rockstar continued, "We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it."

To conclude, Rockstar did not reveal much beyond explaining why it had little to say about the game. There was some discussion of Gamerpics and a disc-less version of GTA 5, but nothing that can be recounted with concrete evidence. What this does say about GTA 5 and its development is that Rockstar is keeping its ears close to the ground. Those who were expecting Rockstar to maintain radio silence were happily proven wrong.

We’ll be sure to update you with any GTA 5 information that comes around the bend, but it doesn’t appear that Rockstar has any intention of releasing assets or information in the near future, so don’t hold your breath.

In the meantime, you can always take a look at fan-driven efforts to document the game. Fans have done so through 3D renderings of Los Santos and through the compilation of the game's businesses in a database.
