Lootboxes are quite possibly one of the most toxic additions we’ve seen happen in modern gaming – and it seems that the developers behind Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian agrees. In their forums, the developer stated that “The answer is simply: ‘no.’ No microtransactions, of any kind, in our game.”
Obisidan’s next title, an upcoming RPG is set to be published by an indie division belonging to the same publisher behind hit titles GTA V and the upcoming Red Dead Redemption, Take-Two.
“We’re extremely excited about our upcoming RPG, and we know you are too,” Obsidian said (via IGN). “We wish we could tell you all about it right now… but we’re going to hold off until the time is right.”
I find this especially interesting considering Take-Two interactive went on record a couple weeks back to confirm that all their games will definitely have microtransactions in the future.
‘Take-Two, the publisher behind hit titles such as GTA V and the NBA 2K series is planning on including microtransactions in all future titles.
In an investor call (as transcribed by Gamasutra) Take- Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick explained that recurrent consumer spending is a huge opportunity for the company and is the way he’d like to take the company’
