EA and DICE's upcoming "Battlefield 3" was teased just yesterday as a cover on the next issue of Game Informer magazine, and a website for the game has just gone live to promote it.
As information about "Battlefield 3" was released through a variety of different magazine and online sources, we've decided to compile what we know about the game all in one place.
"Battlefield 3" is touted as the true successor to "Battlefield 2". Unlike the previous main "Battlefield" titles, it will contain a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign straight out of the box. The multiplayer game will feature 64-player maps on the PC and 24-player maps on the console, with the return of the prone function (removed from the "Bad Company" series) and fighter jets. Maps will be set in both iconic and unexpected places in the USA, Middle East and Europe, including claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes.
Two of the new features revealed is the ability to pull injured players from the line of fire and use elements of the terrain as a stand for your weapon.
The game is built on a new game engine called Frostbite 2, which supports full scale maps, terrain and building destruction, dynamic audio and lifelike character animations. The engine features deferred rendering, real-time radiosity and a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label.
The cover art, as you can see, resembles the iconic cover art of all previous Battlefield games and the game will undoubtedly satisfy the likes of fans both old and new. I know where I'm spending a few hundred hours this year.
