Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Won’t Be Playable In The Bathroom

February 20, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Players won’t be able to do any bathroom gaming with MH3U.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is exclusive to the Nintendo Wii U, but it won't be making much use of the GamePad—at least not as a controller.

Instead, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will only use the GamePad as a subscreen to complement the main screen, dispensing information about monsters, equipment, and so forth.

Speaking to Joystiq, the game's producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said that the subscreen allows the game to be a two-screen experience rather than serve as a replacement for the main display.

"Really, the way that we approach making the title for the Wii U was that we wanted to make the Wii U GamePad subscreen a compliment to the main screen," he said.

"So instead of making the screens replaceable or being able to switch them, we really wanted to make sure that players are utilizing both real estate of the screens, in conjunction with each other.”

Given that the GamePad's use as a subscreen prevents gamers from taking their time with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate away from the couch, it might not be the best use of the device.

The game is out later this year.
