Denizen of Cryptic's Star Trek Online MMO are celebrating its third anniversary. The festivities kicked off on January 31 and is going till Valentine's Day. February 14th. And who is throwing the party you might be asking? Why the Q, naturally.
Below is a video that shows various highlights from the past year. Among the many notable milestones, including the game going free to play and various new campaigns, which are referred to as seasons, is an epic snowball fight with a gigantic snowman. Nice to know that, as fleshed out and sophisticated as the Star Trek universe has become, it still retains some of the hokiness of the original 60s TV show:
As part of the celebration, all participants of the special anniversary mission will be able to get an Ambassador-class starship, the U.S.S. Enterprise-C.
Seasoned Trek fans know already that it's the ship that was destroyed in a battle with the Romulans, which greatly impressed the Klingons (the Enterprise-C had been protecting a Klingon outpost) that it helped to lead to peace between the two factions.
It appeared in an episode of The Next Generation, and featured the return of Natasha Yar, who had been killed off in the first season. The actress who plays the role, Denise Crosby, also plays a role in the campaign.
Last year, to celebrate the game's second anniversary, a similar giveaway took place. The prize in that instance was the U.S.S. Enterprise-F. Though the F is only canon in the game, and not in the TV shows and movies, making the C all the more desirable.
