Visceral Games ‘Confused’ Over Why PC Gamers Are Angry About Dead Space 3

January 29, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Visceral Games has admitted their bafflement over why PC gamers are angry that the game is a straight up port.

Visceral Games took no small amount of heat from PC gamers when it was revealed just a few days ago that the PC version of their upcoming game, Dead Space 3, would be little more than a straight port with no special bells and whistles for the platform.

Steve Papoutsis, executive producer at Visceral Games has since defended the studio's decision in a new interview. Speaking to Shack News, the producer admitted (or feigned) his confusion at the criticism.

“It’s confusing to me that this question even comes up,” Papoutsis said in response to a question about the game's lack of optimization for the PC. “It’s by no means any less important to us; it gets a lot of attention. The PC is a very different platform. As developers, you want to deliver an experience that’s as similar as possible on different platforms.

“At our studio, we’ve always made console games. The biggest thing is we want to make sure the quality of the experience is consistent across all platforms so we don’t have one userbase saying it’s better on their system (…) It’s a confusing question and I hope my answer brings a little bit of light to it. We seem a little bit discredited for the amount of effort that goes into it, quite honestly.”

“We want it to be great on all systems, that’s our approach.”

I don't buy his argument. There's no reason why the game shouldn't offer higher resolution textures or more graphical options when other games developed at EA, including the upcoming Crysis 3, offer exactly that.
