Take Two Allegedly Threatened to ‘Sue the Sh*t’ Out of ‘L.A. Noir’ TV Show

January 24, 2013 by Jeanine Celestin-Greer

One director is told he can’t use the name for his show

According to The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont, he wanted to create a TV show on TNT set in 1946 in L.A. He would call it: L.A. Noir. But apparently a company with the cash to back up their threat didn't like that.

"Yes, it was going to be called L.A. Noir, based on the book by John Buntin. But the video game company with the video game called L.A. Noire (with an e!) threatened to sue the shit out of me, TNT, every company that actually ever worked in Hollywood," Darabont said.

Apparently Take-Two – who owns Rockstar Games – declined to comment when asked by Gamespot.

"And they have the billions of dollars to back it up, apparently," admitted Darabont. "So we're changing the title, and I do believe the title is going to be Lost Angels."

Darabont's show is based primarily on the book, L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City. The book was released in 2010, and Team Bondi's (published by Rockstar) game L.A. Noire was finally released in 2011.
