As most everyone knows, THQ's financial status has forced the publisher to auction off their various properties and titles to the highest bidder, whomever they might be, to settle outstanding debts.
For the most part, these are IPs that are either not currently in development or are in the earliest of stages. Plus, most are soley owned, in-house properties. But what about the upcoming South Park: The Stick of Truth?
The company that owns the rights to the South Park license, South Park Digital Studios LLC, is not the least bit happy with the game being sold off and has thusly filed an objects in in Delaware bankruptcy court recently to stop it from happening.
Furthermore, Joystiq reports, the injunction clarifies that the deal that they and THQ struck back on June 29, 2011, does not allow for other parties to use the South Park IP, even if the game itself ends up in someone else's hands for whatever reason.
Plus, THQ owes South Park Studios at least $2.275 million for defaulted payments.
The auction for all of THQ's properties took place earlier today, but no word yet on if the injunction was honored or ignored. Obviously, this is not the last we have heard of a particularly messy situation. Hopefully things get ironed out, because Stick of Truth did look to be a winner, the first game to honestly use the license correctly.
