Sledgehammer Games Reveal New Details for Call of Duty: WWII’s Zombies Mode

Sep 14, 2017 Mostafa Hossam

Call of Duty: World War II's Zombie mode looks interesting so far.

The Call of Duty: World War II hype train is reaching its peak, and Sledgehammer Games’ Senior Director and WWII’s Zombie mode Lead Director Jon Horsley was recently featured in an interview with PlayStation Blog.

Horsley discussed several topics, while dissecting and hinting towards numerous hidden secrets within the mode’s trailer for those who want to watch it carefully and inspect it frame by frame. Some of the most interesting questions were regarding different types of Zombies and if people will be able to use the environment to help them, since in the trailer, the character was able to use a saw blade to go through a horde of zombies.

PSB: The trailer hints at different types of zombies. How far is Sledgehammer going in this direction?

JH:In our story, the Third Reich has built an army of the dead in a last-ditch attempt to save the war effort. Interestingly, these zombies retain some of the discipline and purpose of the soldiers they once were. Each zombie type fills a specialized role as well: there are flaming zombies and running zombies, for example, and they will give you serious problems if you get cornered.

It will take a ton of strategy and teamwork to survive the varied undead soldiers in this mode. Teamwork, communication, and a level head will be key!

PSB: The trailer showed a saw blade, which got us thinking… can players use the environment to their advantage?

JH:There are a variety of structures built by the enemy to subdue and constrain the undead. A resourceful player can turn the tables and use their engines of death against them. And saw blades are just the beginning; there are numerous ways to trap and kill your enemies. The environment can be a great ally if you know how to leverage it…

Call of Duty: WWII releases on November 3 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
