Much has been said about the Japanese gaming landscape, as it pertains to how limp and lost everything looks and feels these days. If rumors are correct, this year will see the release of the next generation of consoles, and it'll be a chance for the established guard to give it all they got, and to reclaim some former glory. But many of us are not holding our breaths.
Yet all is not lost; there are still a few parties today that have managed to retain the sprit of what Eastern gaming used to embody. Case in point: Platinum Games. The studio was formed by a who's who of movers and shakers from Capcom, all of whom sought greener pastures. Clearly, they saw the writing was on the wall at respective, former digs.
Included in the ensemble is Hideki Kamiya, Atsushi Inaba, Shinji Mikami, Shigenori Nishikawa, Masaki Yamanaka, and Kenji Saito. Their past, pre-Platinum body of work includes Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and God Hand, to name a few. And together they've been able to craft some of the finest games to hail from the East in recent years.
And the future is looking even brighter. Which is why the studio recently put together this highlight reel, to show where they've been, and where they're headed:
The studio's most recent release, Anarchy Reigns, was just released to critical acclaim, and the demo for their next release, Metal Gear Rising, is due very soon as previously noted.
