GameStick, the Ouya competitor that hit its Kickstarter goal in less than two days, was pulled from the site briefly yesterday because of an “intellectual property dispute”. The email sent to backers informed them that the project had been “removed from public view” because of this dispute, and also said that if the issue wasn't resolved within a month, then the GameStick would be cancelled and never come to market.
Luckily for the project's backers, the dispute was promptly sorted. PlayJam, the team behind the GameStick, provided further details on its Facebook page in a message that has now been removed:
This IP issue has NOTHING to do with our design or product! It's a small snag in one of our promo videos demonstrating a game that was exposed without clearance. An oversight and one that we're editing in the video now.
The project was back up on Kickstarter within two hours, and PlayJam wrote an update to accompany the relaunch explaining why the introductory video is still missing from the page:
After a brief, cold spell in the wilderness, we are happy to report that we are back up and running. You may notice that our video is still on vacation, this is due to an honest oversight in the inclusion of a certain game within one of the UI shots presented.
Our developers, (huge fans of that game), used the image to help space out the UI. This version was on a test stick that was used in a very short part of the clip and was missed by us.
