Learn The Ropes of ‘SimCity’ With This Newly Released Introduction Video

January 9, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

A new video of SimCity introduces would-be players to some of the game’s new features and elements.

It's not too long until EA Maxis releases the long-awaited successor to the SimCity franchise of games. Today, the studio showed off its latest video for the upcoming game—an introduction video which helps to kick start players' experiences as soon as they log into the game.

Unlike previous SimCity games, the upcoming SimCity comes with full fledged online connectivity and requires that players log onto a server, where their city will interact with others in the world.

The new video explains exactly how the so-called multi-city play works with an expansive aerial view of one of the regions in the game, before it zooms into city specialization—a feature entirely new to the series. It provides a look at how their cities can look and function when you specialize in coal power, clean nuclear, or wind power, or tourism. In effect, you can even create a Las Vegas-like city that's bankrolled by tourism and gambling.

The video ends with a look at the Space Center, another feature new to the series, which functions as one of the game's Great Works that many players can work to create together.

SimCity is set for release in early March for the PC. It's currently available for pre-order on both EA's own Origin service and through a variety of retailers as either a boxed title or a digital copy.
